Missing my land

August 21, 2006 |

Today I woke up with a strange feeling: I miss Bucharest. It’s strange I know, but while we were in the train to Barcelona I remebered all those things about Bucharest that I liked. Everyone knows that when I was living in Bucharest I hated it, I always said that it was not a place that I could call home. I cannot call Bucharest home now either, but still. There are some little things that I miss:

- I miss Pipera. Strange huh? But I really miss it. Maybe it’s because the last two years of my life are related to BitDefender: in BitDefender I made friends, real friends, those friends that will always be friends, in BitDefender I have learned lots of things about work, about life, about everything, and in BitDefender I met Bru :P. I miss Pipera, I miss the nights when we ran out of cigarettes and we called a cab to go buy some and some food for everybody, I miss coming to work, seeing lots of dogs and getting scared (like this time: see the full story).

- I miss the train station. Yes, I do. I miss all the people coming and going to nowhere, excited, sad. I miss the kiosks, I used to buy a newspaper and look for comics every time I went there. Maybe I like trains, maybe I like the feeling that the train gives me, maybe it’s the station, but what is true is that I didn’t find that here yet. Still searching.

- I miss Plaza, the shopping center that I used to visit so often that I came to take it for my home. I’ve spent lots of moments there, and I have lots of memories, some are good, some are sad, some are just funny.

- I miss the food. The spanish food is also good but I didn’t learn to cook yet, so I’m still eating pizza, eggs and fries. The first thing I will do when I get to Bucharest will be go to “La Mama” and eat, after I see Alina, Cornelia, Laura and Sabina (alphabetic order :P) and then on Sunday I’ll go to KFC. (don’t envy me, I’ll bring you the garlic sauce).

- I miss being able to buy cigarretes even at 2 AM. Here in Spain it’s quite difficult, not to say impossible to buy cigarretes at that hour or on Sunday.

- I miss so many things but there are more things that I don’t miss: traffic, aggressive drunk people, shop assistants and their arrogant looks, and the list is longer, but this is not the place for it.

On Saturday I’m flying to Bucharest, to see all I’ve missed and all that I didn’t. I’ll tell the next chapter of the story from there.
